Difficult circumstances

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

Not everyone has stability or safety when their baby is born. Difficult circumstances when you have a new baby can be incredibly stressful to manage. You may be facing finance, housing, domestic violence or legal issues. Perhaps you have had a recent job loss, death in the family or your circumstances that mean it is not safe to live in your home. Seeking support during this time can be vital. At Mums Matter Psychology we can support you emotionally and link you in with other support services.

We know that legal matters are often complex, time-consuming and can drain your energy and money. Having a trusted person that you can speak to about these matters can hep to ease some of the burden.

Violence against women is a significant human rights issue in Victoria. Everyone has a right to safety in homes, schools, at work and in the community. Having a safe, secure place to live is one of the most basic human rights. Our service has connections with a range of women’s resources that can help support women to ensure their safety and the safety of their child(ren).

Having a baby is stressful and having difficult life circumstances is stressful too. Many women feel ashamed or embarrassed about their situation and as a result, might not seek the help that they need. In our service we are completely bulk billed (with a GP Mental Health Care plan) and as a result there are no out-of-pocket fees for you. We are also sensitive to the fact that these situations can take away the sense of dignity that women have and so we support women in a non-judgemental way.
