Belinda Horton is a registered Mental Health Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Belinda has worked in perinatal mental health care for 30 years and is passionate about supporting new parents to be their best and happiest selves as they learn about their child(ren) and build the best quality of life for themselves and their family.
Belinda has a broad range of skills and experience in perinatal mental health care including mental health Occupational Therapy, Family Therapy, attachment, trauma informed practice, perinatal loss and grief, cultural sensitivity and adjusting to parenting.
Belinda is a practitioner in The Richards Trauma Process™ (TRTP™) and has been working with Mums Matter Psychology clients with particularly distressing and traumatic experiences that are coming up now that they have had a baby and are parenting. TRTP™ resolves distressing events from the past that are contributing to the development of anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health issues.
Unresolved distress and trauma from throughout life are stored in the body, and the body responds as if those events are continuing to happen. In order to deal with trauma where it is stored, in the unconscious and in the body, TRTP™ uses the language of the unconscious and body - the imagination. Guiding deep imagination safely and efficiently, the trauma is resolved and the body and unconscious return to calm. Once this happens, existing and new skills can help new parents to be more calm, confident, and self-assured.
Belinda has completed the Occupational Therapy Australia OT Supervision program and is skilled and experienced in providing clinical supervision, support and mentoring to Occupational Therapists working in perinatal mental health.
