Louise Mitchell
Louise Mitchell – Psychologist BSc (Applied Psych), PGrad Dip Psych, 4+2 SPP (Child & Adolescent Development Service) Louise is a registered psychologist who values and enjoys working with children, young people, and their families to help improve health, wellbeing, and functioning experiences from a mental health perspective. She is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPi). Louise’s professional background includes numerous years working in a variety of community-based mental health settings, government funded family mental health support services, school-based outreach services, and private practice. Her interest in working collaboratively with parents to enhance welfare includes focus on emotional challenges, adjustment to parenting, formative childhood development processes, and validation and celebration of the joys and successes of parenthood. Louise’s therapeutic practices encompass humanistic, non-judgmental, person-centred and trauma-informed care, in an open and approachable manner. Louise incorporates elements of cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal therapy, filial play therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy in her individualised interventions. She is a trained facilitator of the Children of Parents with a Mental Illness (COPMI) Koping Kidz program, and the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting program Tuning in to Teens™. Louise has also completed Applied Skills in Perinatal Mental Health Assessment and Care training through the national Centre of Perinatal Excellence.
